YouMail's Smart Greeting automatically greets your callers with both your name and their name. For example, "Hi Hannah, Max can't come to the phone right now. Please leave a message." We look for the caller's name by the caller-id. Sometimes, the carrier doesn't forward or even have the first name, so to ensure your callers get greeted with their name, upload your contacts to YouMail.
There are three possibilities that exist if the SmartGreeting isn't recognizing the name after your contacts have been uploaded to YouMail.com:
1. The caller's name is not in the system.
2. The caller's name has characters in the name that make it unrecognizable (such as a '-' or a space)
3. the caller's name has its first and last name on the first name line (or no names are present in the First Name field
Ex: "Mary Ann" would not work, whereas "Mary" or "MaryAnn" would in the first name field.
The smart greeting looks for the first name associated with the phone number in your YouMail contacts first, then if the caller is a YouMail user, then the first name registered to the phone number.
The first name must be in our smart greeting database in able to greet the callers with their first names. You can preview your contact's smart greeting by clicking on the round green playback icon on the contacts tab.
Identifiers and titles such as Mr, Ms, and Dr are not support at this time.
If your name or your contact's name is not one of the thousands of recognized names in our Smart Greetings database, just send us an email to support@youmail.com or fill out our Support Request form.
Note: To add new names to the smart greeting, YouMail pays the voice talent to record each name just right; which has gotten really expensive. As a result, we charge $5.00/name.
Here's how to order your name:
