Before we dive into the details, let’s make sure to define exactly what “DEACTIVATING” means. Deactivating your YouMail account basically puts the account on hold. Calls will no longer forward to the YouMail, but will instead forward back to your carrier. It does NOT delete the app from your phone.
Please note that your carrier controls where your calls are forwarded to. YouMail simply helps you tell your carrier where to forward your calls. Deactivation will simply tell the carrier that you no longer want to forward to our mailbox and that the carrier voicemail is your mailbox of choice.
Why Deactivate?
Some users will choose to deactivate their call forwarding but leave the account open if they have a full inbox and don't want to bother downloading every message or have changed carriers offering a service like YouMail. Others, just opt to take a break. In any case, deactivating your call forwarding does not uninstall the app from your phone. Also, please note that if you’re a paying customer, you’ll still get charged if you do not cancel your YouMail order.
Need to Deactivate?
Please follow the instructions below dependent on your handset and carrier.
Using the Android App:
- Open the YouMail app
- Tap the Menu (☰) icon in the top left corner of the screen
- Tap on Return to Carrier Voicemail
Using the iPhone App:
- Open the YouMail app
- Tap the Menu (☰) icon in the top left corner of the screen
- Open the Settings menu at the top of the screen
- Tap on Return to Carrier Voicemail
- Follow the On Screen Directions
If you've already uninstalled the App:
- Dial in your carrier deactivation code
- Or, contact your carrier to reset call forwarding.
Below are the carrier deactivation codes. If your carrier requires multiple codes, please make a separate call for each code. For example, if your carrier is AT&T, you would do the following:
-
Dial ##61 and push call
-
Then dial ##62# and push call
-
Then dial ##67# and push call

I can't deactivate this please remove asap
@ashleymccoy Were you able to find your carrier's deactivation code in the list we provided above? I have also opened up a support ticket for you. Please check your email.
You mail ,voicemail makes you tube and other applications silent. Have to turn power off
@Gary Our support team has been in contact with you. Please refer to their email.
Tried all the suggested forms to deactivate and still cannot go back to my VZ voicemail. *73 did not work. Called VZ and they are not able to "reset" call forwarding. I need access to my existing VZ voicemail messages!!!! Remove this please.
I can't deactivate my account
@Spond222 I recommend asking VZ for tier 2 support or ask for a supervisor. Then tell them that you want to reset or remove call forwarding and return to their voicemail. Please refrain from mentioning YouMail as most carriers won't provide support for third party apps. YouMail does not have access to your carrier account to change where your calls go, only your carrier can has access to this.
@Theonlymalissa Our support team will be sending you an email shortly.
I have used the code and it won't allow me to deactivate.
@Jackie I just sent you an email about your inquiry.
I have entered the deactivation code. My phone does go to my regular voicemail but when I call *86 it doesn't allow me to access my Voicemail. Your help desk isn't responding and I'm about to file a complaint with the FCC and the BBB.
@Scubadude81 If your calls are no longer going to YouMail and your voicemails are now going to your carrier, please contact them to see how you can retrieve your voicemails. Our support team contacted you on the same day we received your request. If you have any other questions, please respond to the email we sent you.
I have AT&T and I am trying to deactivate this. I went to the Menu icon, More, then Return to carrier voicemail and something came up and said it failed ? Then I even tried dialing the deactivation codes for At&t and it said it failed AGAIN ! This is so frustrating. Please remove/deactivate this from my phone ASAP !
Why won't this deactivate ? I've tried everything and it's STILL not deactivated.
@Jaiden Our support team has been in contact with you regarding this. If the you are still having trouble deactivating, please contact your carrier and ask them to reset call forwarding on your phone, without mentioning YouMail since most carriers won't provide support for third party apps. Also, note that you may have to ask for Tier 2 support.
I have verizon and I can't get it back to my carrier voicemail!!!!! I've tried EVERYTHING!!!!!
@Amber If the deactivation code for Verizon is not working on your phone, please contact Verizon and ask them to reset call forwarding on your phone. That should get you connected back to your carrier voicemail.
Please deactivate my account
Okay, for those AT&T customers, the problem they identified was an extension added to my phone number causing ALL phone calls to be forwarded to an "unavailable message" - NOT my voicemail so there was no way to know who called or for them to leave a vm. Followed the above deactivation code(s), verified my call settings > forwarding options, reset my voicemail, and still nothing. After all research, AT&T was able to remove the extension/feature attached to my phone number which FINALLY resolved the incoming call issue.
@sarah We're sorry to see you go. Are you experiencing any issues with YouMail that we can help you resolve?
For security reasons, we cannot deactivate your account for you. Follow the instructions on this link to delete your account: https://support.youmail.com/hc/en-us/articles/200478098-Cancel-Your-YouMail-Account-Return-to-Your-Carrier-Voicemail
@Lana These codes deactivate YouMail and send your calls back to your carrier, instead of YouMail. We have tested the codes and it works for AT&T phones. When dialing any forwarding codes, please make sure to dial them separately and exactly as they are listed to activate or deactivate correctly.
