If your caller is not being greeted by name, here's how to fix that
If your Smart Greeting is not recognizing a caller’s name, make sure that you have uploaded your contacts to the YouMail website. You can also upload your contacts via the iOS and Android apps.
If you have uploaded your contacts and the problem persists, there are a few possible causes. Smart Greeting references both first names and phone numbers to address the caller correctly. If the first name field of the caller’s contact info is left blank, improperly formatted, or simply not in our system, the Smart Greeting will not be able to retrieve their name to greet them. Read below for ways to resolve this.
Their first name has a special character or space in it
You can rewrite their name without the special character and/or spaces in their contact info.
Ex: "Mary-Anne" should be re-written as "Maryanne"
The “First Name” field of the contact is blank
You can enter their first name in the appropriate field in their contact info. |
Their name is not in YouMail’s system
YouMail maintains a database of thousands of common names to plug into our Smart Greetings, but a few rare names will always slip through the cracks. We continually update our database.
Note: If the contact name is a nickname not in our database, or a name that's common but spelled differently than how it is normally spelled, the system will not recognize it.
Ex: You can replace the name with the more common spelling: Riley instead of Righlee
If your name is not recorded, upgrade to any Professional subscription, and we'll record it for you.
