YouMail’s Smart Blocking feature is an enhancement to your built-in call blocking that prevents the following from getting through to you:
- Robocalls
- Telemarketers
- Call spammers
- Other unwanted callers
When a blocked caller reaches your voicemail, they will hear a “number disconnected” tone instead of your normal voicemail greeting.
YouMail also keeps a directory of known robocallers, telemarketers and spammers that is constantly being updated by our users. Thanks to this database, we can block unwanted callers for you automatically. To learn more about the YouMail public directory, please follow this link.
If you are on an Android, YouMail can activate your phone’s built-in call blocking on its own whenever you activate Smart Blocking. Learn how to activate Smart Blocking on an Android here!
If you are on an iPhone, you will need to activate your phone’s built-in call blocking to prevent your phone from ringing. Learn how to activate Smart Blocking on an iPhone here!

I 😍 LOVE YOUMAIL! Thank you for having my back and noticing a problem and actually FIXING IT FO ME!
here's wishing your hard working 🎎 folks the best Christmas 🎁 🎄 Season and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
This does not work anymore. There is No Out of Service dedicated message Spam/Blacklisted callers hear. It’s my Smart Greeting that plays now. it’s as if I have to individually change to an out of service greeting that I don’t have time to do what happened?
Hi Lovlyn!
Thank you for your message. We do still have a dedicated message for Spam/Blacklisted callers; nothing has changed recently to disable this feature! You simply need to ensure the below things are set up properly:
1. You are activated. You can follow this link and select Setup Phone or Test Call to ensure you are activated.
2. You have your spam filter enabled. You can follow this link to select your appropriate filter setting.
3. You have your Blocked contact set to have the Out of Service greeting. You can follow this link, select Blocked on the left hand side, then the singular Blocked contact, and ensure that the Out of Service greeting is set. If it is not, please select Change Greeting.
4. The numbers in question are actually blocked as spam or blacklisted. You can ensure they are blocked as spam by researching the number on our Directory. If it is not marked as spam, please add a new report marking the number as spam.
If you are having issues with any of these steps, please reach out to our awesome customer support team at support@youmail.com or chat us below by selecting the Help button. We are happy to help!
Thanks
