OCN Error Message
Are you trying to activate and are receiving an OCN Error? Or are your callers unable to leave a message because they hear the same error? This is occurring because your carrier is not forwarding the OCN information to us with the rest of the call information.
OCN, or Original Call Number, is the part of the information that your carrier forwards to YouMail when someone leaves a message. The carrier is supposed to forward the following information to YouMail:
- The number that was originally called
- The number that called you
- The time of call
- The location of the call
The OCN needs to be routed over to YouMail by your carrier in order for our system to recognize who is calling you and what inbox the call needs to connect to. Without that process, calls will not connect to your voicemail inbox and often callers will be asked to re-enter the number they originally dialed (i.e. your phone number) so that it can be directed to your YouMail inbox. It is essential for your carrier to route the OCN information to YouMail in order for YouMail to work properly.
Most often, an OCN Error can only be resolved by the carrier manually setting up your Conditional Call Forwarding to your YouMail deposit number, but our support team is happy to give you a hand and troubleshoot a few options to resolve the issue.
