If your mobile device supports call forwarding, but your carrier does not, you may be able to change the settings directly on your phone to setup YouMail. Since there are different types of Android devices, these instructions may not be exact, but still similar and applicable to your device.
1. Open your phone’s Settings
2. Select Call
3. Tap Additional Settings
4. Then, tap Call Forwarding
5. In this window you should see four designations. In these fields you will notice some phone numbers. Write these numbers down for future reference. These are the numbers for your voicemail carrier.
Note: At this point you may run into a Network/SIM card Error. If you do, this is something your carrier will need to work through for you. You will need to contact them and have them set up conditional call forwarding to your deposit number. It is important to refrain from mentioning any third party names, such as YouMail, when contacting your carrier’s customer service as they will not find your issue to be directly related to their service and be uninclined to help you.
6. To set up voicemail with YouMail, you will need to change the phone number in each field in Step 5 to your YouMail deposit number, which you can find in your account here
Your new settings should be as follows:
- Always forward
(turned off)
- Forward when busy
(Forwarding to +1[ENTER DEPOSIT NUMBER])
- Forward when unanswered
(Forwarding to +1[ENTER DEPOSIT NUMBER])
- Forward when unreachable
(Forwarding to +1[ENTER DEPOSIT NUMBER])
You should now be connected to YouMail! If you are receiving error codes please contact your carrier with the note under step 5.
