You can use YouMail to manage calls you receive on a landline such as your work or home phone number.
Note: To add multiple lines to you existing YouMail account, you'll need to upgrade to a paid subscription.
There are a few different ways you can do this:
By creating an account online –
- Create an account at YouMail.com
- When you reach the step to activate YouMail, YouMail will have you dial a set of codes. You can dial these codes but there is a chance this won’t work as the codes are usually for mobile phones. If your landline is on a major carrier (i.e. AT&T, Verizon, Time Warner Cable) YouMail will provide activation instructions.
If activation instructions are not provided or don’t work, you can sign in to your carrier’s account to set it up there –
- Go to YouMail.com and sign into your account. Go to ‘Settings’, then ‘My Phones’
- At the bottom of My Phones, there is a section titled ‘How YouMail Works’ that will tell you what phone number your calls are forwarded to so that YouMail can take care of them for you. This is called your Deposit Number. Take your Deposit Number down. It is important for the next steps.
- Log in to carrier account that you subscribe to for your landline (like Verizon or Time Warner Cable)
- Depending on your carrier, you may be able to change your call forwarding settings (which is phone jargon for having YouMail handle your missed calls for you instead of Verizon, for example).
- If your carrier allows you to change call forwarding online, you will need to set Call Forwarding for Busy, Unanswered (No Ring), and Unreachable (or Remote Access) to your Deposit Number in Step 2. After you have set call forwarding for all three conditions to go to your Deposit Number, you should now have YouMail for your landline.
If neither of the options above work or you would just prefer to cut straight to the chase, your best option is to call your carrier and have them do it for you manually -
- Go to youmail.com and sign into your account.
- Call your carrier.
Here are common carrier Support Center numbers:
Verizon Wireless (800) 922-0204
AT&T (800) 331-0500
Time Warner Cable (800) 892-4357
- When a customer support agent asks what you need assistance with, tell them the following: “Hi, I would like to set up my conditional call forwarding for busy, unanswered, and unreachable calls to [Deposit Number].” If the first customer care agent can’t help you, ask to have your request escalated. IMPORTANT: Do NOT mention YouMail when you are speaking to the customer care agent. They will tell you that they do not support 3rd party apps and will not want to help you.
- The customer support agent will forward your calls for you and YouMail should now be working for your landline.
Once you have YouMail set up for your landline you will be able to access your voicemails any way you want. YouMail gives you plenty of options to better manage your missed calls and voicemails. You can view your voicemails from your online account at youmail.com, by dialing in to listen to your voicemails, or by downloading the YouMail app for your smartphone or tablet. If you like handling all messages in one place, you can also have your voicemails sent to your email for convenient message handling!
If you are experiencing any issues, please contact YouMail Customer Care and an experienced member of our support team will be more than happy to help you.
