Android 9 and earlier blocking issues
If you are experiencing the issue of not being able to block calls on your YouMail account, it is due to the fact that you are currently using the Android 9 operating system or earlier.
Due to recent changes by Google, users of Android 9 (Pie) will see reduced blocking capabilities as of March 2020. YouMail is continuing to pressure Google for resolution for Android 9 (Pie) users but Google's guidance at this time is to simply encourage affected users to upgrade to Android 10 (Q) to resolve the issue.
If you are on Android 9 (Pie) but you are currently unable to update your operating system you can click this url: http://go.youmail.com/ymdroidvvmdfltph (on your phone) to download an older version of the YouMail app in order to start blocking robo-calls once again. But in order to do this you will first need to side-load the app onto your phone.
Instructions for Side-Loading
- Open settings
- Tap Apps and Notifications
- Tap the Advanced Menu to expand it
- Tap Special App Access
- Tap Install Unknown Apps
- Grant the permission on the desired app (YouMail)
The only drawback to doing this is unfortunately that the app will not get auto updates.
Hopefully Google will loosen the requirements on Android 9 (Pie) and allow us once again to be the default phone app so that we can start blocking your pesky robo-calls properly.
