Overview
If your voicemails are still going to your carrier’s voicemail, YouMail is not currently activated for your phone number. This means Conditional Call Forwarding is not set up correctly, and missed calls are not being forwarded to YouMail. This article explains why this happens and how to reactivate YouMail, so your voicemails are delivered properly.
Key benefits/use cases
Restore YouMail voicemail: Ensure missed calls route to your YouMail inbox
Fix activation issues: Resolve forwarding problems after phone or carrier changes
Prevent missed messages: Confirm voicemail delivery is working correctly
Self-service reactivation: Reactivate YouMail without contacting your carrier
Why voicemails are still going to your carrier
Your voicemail may continue going to your carrier if YouMail is not fully activated. This commonly happens when:
You get a new phone
You change your phone number
Your carrier makes network or account updates
Conditional Call Forwarding is removed or reset by the carrier
When this occurs, missed or unanswered calls default back to your carrier’s voicemail system.
How to forward voicemails to YouMail again
To reactivate YouMail and forward missed calls correctly, follow these steps.
How to reactivate YouMail voicemail forwarding
To forward your voicemails to YouMail, follow these steps:
Sign in to the YouMail website.
Log in to your account using your email and password.
2. Open your Phone Lines settings.
Select Phone Lines, then choose the drop-down arrow next to Edit for the number you want to activate.
Forward to Youmail
3. Select Forward to YouMail.
Choose Forward to YouMail and follow the manual activation instructions shown on the screen.
4. Complete activation.
Dial the provided activation codes to enable Conditional Call Forwarding.
Important: Activation requires dialing carrier forwarding codes. If these steps are not completed, calls will continue to go to your carrier’s voicemail.
Note: Some carriers may reset call forwarding during account or network updates, even if YouMail was previously working.
Tip: After activation, place a test call to your number and let it ring unanswered to confirm that YouMail answers the call.
Pro tip: If activation fails multiple times, restarting your phone or contacting your carrier to confirm call forwarding is allowed on your line may help.
