Overview
Issues syncing iPhone contacts to YouMail are uncommon but can affect how callers are greeted or blocked. This guide explains why contact sync problems happen, how to remove duplicate contacts, and how to re-upload your contacts to ensure Smart Greetings work correctly.
Key benefits / use cases
Correct caller greetings: Ensure callers are greeted properly by name
Duplicate prevention: Remove repeated contacts that cause greeting errors
Reliable syncing: Re-upload contacts to restore proper functionality
Remove duplicate contacts from your YouMail account
To resolve duplicate contact issues, follow these steps to remove existing contacts from your account:
Sign in to your account from the website.
From the dashboard, select Contacts.
Select the checkbox next to Actions in the top-left corner to select all contacts.
Click Actions, then select Delete.
This removes all contacts currently stored in your account so they can be re-synced cleanly.
Important: Duplicate contacts with the same phone number can cause incorrect greetings to play.
Note: Contacts can be edited through the app or the website. Any updates made on your iPhone will sync to YouMail after re-uploading.
Auto-sync contacts from the iOS app
To upload your contacts from the iOS app, follow these steps:
Open the app and tap the Contacts icon at the bottom.
Tap the three dots in the top-right corner.
Enable Auto-sync to re-upload your contacts.
Tap "Done".
Once complete, your contacts will sync again and update Smart Greetings.
Important: You must allow contact permissions for the app to sync contacts successfully.
Note: If a contact calls an Extra Line, any custom greeting assigned to that contact will not apply by design.
Tip: After syncing, place a test call from a saved contact to confirm the correct greeting plays.
Pro tip: Keep your iPhone contact list clean and deduplicated before syncing to avoid future greeting or blocking issues.
