How to manage your contacts on the YouMail website

Learn how to add, update, and keep your contacts organized using YouMail’s web interface so your caller experience stays personalized and accurate

YouMail lets you add new contacts and edit existing ones directly on the web, so callers are correctly identified and personalized greetings can be applied. This article walks through each step so your contacts are always up to date.

Overview

Contacts in YouMail help you identify callers, apply custom greetings, and prevent nuisance calls from being misclassified. On the web, you can add contacts manually, pull them from messages or call history, and edit any contact’s details at any time. This guide shows all of those tasks in a clear, step-by-step way so your contact list stays accurate and useful.

Key benefits/use cases

  • Easily add new contacts: Turn callers into saved contacts so YouMail can label calls correctly.

  • Keep information up to date: Edit names or numbers when details change.

  • Improve caller identification: Personalized contacts reduce confusion and enhance call handling.

  • Call Screening: Contacts are not screened, so it's important to sync your known contacts so they're not screened.

  • Support personalized greetings: Assign custom greetings that reflect the contact’s identity.

How contacts work in YouMail

YouMail uses your contact list to label caller IDs, apply personalized greetings, and avoid misrouting important calls. Contacts are stored in your account and sync across platforms (web and app). Editing contacts on the web updates your global contact list immediately.

To add a new contact in your YouMail online account, follow these steps:

Add a contact from your Inbox

  2. Select a message from the number you want to save.

  3. Click More Actions at the top of the inbox.

  4. Choose Add Contact.

  2. Click + Add Contact at the top right.

  3. Enter the contact’s name, phone number, and optional details.

  4. Click Add to save the contact.

Tip: Adding important callers as contacts helps YouMail recognize them and can prevent them from being handled as unknown or spam calls.

How to edit contacts on the web

Updating a contact’s details ensures your contact list stays current. Here’s how:

  1. Sign in to YouMail.com and click PeopleContacts.

  2. Use the search bar to find the contact by name or number.

  3. Click the three vertical dots to the right of the contact you want to update.

  4. Select Edit.

  5. Make your changes (name, phone number, etc.).

  6. Click Save to apply the updates.

Important: If you have multiple contacts with the same phone number (duplicates), greetings or caller behavior may not work correctly. Make sure to delete or merge duplicate entries before saving.

FAQs

How do I add contacts quickly if someone calls me?

To quickly save a recent caller, open the message thread in your Inbox and use More Actions → Add Contact, then fill in the details and save.

Can I edit contacts from my phone instead of the web?

Yes. You can edit a contact from the YouMail app or on your phone’s contact list and then resync — the changes will reflect in your YouMail online contacts.

Why should I remove duplicate contacts?

Duplicate contacts (same phone number saved multiple times) can cause issues with custom greetings or how calls are labeled. Deleting duplicates ensures consistent behavior.

What happens if I delete a contact?

Deleting a contact removes it from your YouMail contact list. The caller will then be shown as unknown on new calls unless you re-add the contact.
