Types of voicemail transcription plans
YouMail offers two transcription options.
Machine-only transcription
Machine-only transcription uses voice-recognition software to automatically convert voicemail audio into text.
How machine transcription works:
Messages are processed by automated speech recognition software
Transcriptions are generated instantly
Accuracy depends on call quality, accents, and background noise
Names and technical terms may not always be correct
Quality is similar to Siri or Alexa voice recognition
This option is fast and helps you quickly understand most messages.
Human-edited transcription
Human-edited transcription provides the highest level of accuracy by using professional transcribers.
How human-edited transcription works:
Voicemails are split into small segments
Segments are sent to multiple transcribers
Each segment is reviewed and transcribed manually
Messages are reassembled into one transcript
Processing takes longer than machine transcription
This option is best for important or complex messages.
How to enable voicemail transcription on the web
Follow these steps to turn on voicemail transcription from your account dashboard:
Log in to YouMail.com
Click Settings in the left-hand menu
Scroll down and select Voicemail to Text
Review your Email alerts, SMS alerts, and Push alerts settings
Scroll to the bottom of the page
Click Edit
Turn on Voicemail Transcription
Click Save
Once enabled, new voicemails will be automatically transcribed.
How to enable voicemail transcription on Android:
Follow these steps to turn on voicemail transcription from your YouMail app:
Open the YouMail app and select the 3 bars on the top left
Click Settings in the left-hand menu
Scroll down and select Voicemail Transcription
Customize your preferences
Click Save
