Why Was There a Problem Transcribing My Message?

Learn why some voicemails may not be transcribed and how to improve transcription accuracy.

Overview

YouMail uses automated transcription to convert voicemails into text for supported subscriptions, including YouMail Plus, Essentials, Complete, and Ultimate. Audio quality and account settings can affect transcription accuracy. This guide explains common reasons a message may not be transcribed and how to resolve or improve transcription results.

Common reasons messages are not transcribed

Transcriptions are performed by machine by default. The following conditions can affect transcription:

  1. Audio quality issues: Background noise, poor signal, callers speaking quickly, or mumbling can prevent accurate transcription

  2. Technical issues: Occasionally, the transcription service may experience server overload or errors, causing messages to fail

  3. Transcription limit reached: If you have a limited plan, you may have used up your transcription quota for the current period. Upgrade your plan to get additional transcriptions

  4. Multiple phone lines: Unlimited transcription plans are restricted to a single phone line by default. Voicemails on other lines will not be transcribed

  5. Unclear messages: Some voicemails may be too unclear for machine transcription

  6. If you received transcription emails with a message saying transcript unavailable, ensure transcriptions are not set to forward immediately; the setting must be updated to at least 5 minutes or more

Note:
For highly accurate transcriptions, you can add the Human-Edited transcription add-on to your account. Contact YouMail Support for assistance with adding this feature.
