Overview
If spam calls are still reaching you after installing YouMail, your mobile carrier’s spam-blocking service may be interfering. Carrier-provided call blockers can conflict with YouMail and prevent it from working correctly. This guide explains why you need to disable your carrier’s blocking service and shows you the most common carrier options to check.
Key benefits/use cases
Proper spam blocking: Ensures YouMail can block spam calls without interference
Avoid app conflicts: Prevents carrier tools from overriding YouMail’s call handling
Better call identification: Allows YouMail to display accurate spam and caller details
Reliable voicemail protection: Ensures spam calls are routed correctly to YouMail
How to disable your carrier’s blocking service
Disabling your carrier’s spam-blocking service allows YouMail to handle spam calls correctly.
To disable your carrier’s blocking service, follow these steps:
Identify your mobile carrier (AT&T, T-Mobile, or Verizon).
Check whether your carrier’s spam-blocking app or feature is enabled on your phone.
Disable the carrier’s spam-blocking service using the instructions below.
Confirm YouMail is enabled and configured correctly on your device.
AT&T ActiveArmor℠
Open the AT&T ActiveArmor app on your phone.
Navigate to Settings or Call Blocking.
Turn off Spam Call Blocking and any related filtering features.
Close the app and restart your phone.
T-Mobile Scam Shield
Open the T-Mobile Scam Shield app.
Tap Settings.
Disable Scam Block and Caller ID features.
Exit the app and restart your phone.
Verizon Call Filter
Open the Verizon Call Filter app.
Go to Settings.
Turn off Call Blocking and Spam Filter.
Restart your phone to apply the changes.
Important: In addition to disabling your carrier’s spam-blocking service, you must correctly enable YouMail blocking so YouMail can manage your spam calls.
Note:
Carrier spam-blocking tools and YouMail cannot work together at the same time. Leaving both enabled may prevent calls from being blocked.
Tip:
After disabling your carrier’s service, place a test call from a known spam number to confirm YouMail is working.
Pro tip:
If spam calls persist, uninstall or fully disable the carrier’s spam app—not just individual toggles—to avoid hidden conflicts.

Carrier spam-blocking services can conflict with YouMail. If both are enabled, calls may bypass YouMail and not be blocked correctly.
Can YouMail work at the same time as my carrier’s blocking service?
No. YouMail and carrier-provided spam blockers are not compatible and should not be used together.
What happens if I don’t disable my carrier’s blocking service?
Spam calls may continue to reach you. YouMail may not answer blocked calls, or call identification may not work as expected.
How do I know if my carrier’s blocking service is enabled?
Check your phone for apps like AT&T ActiveArmor, T-Mobile Scam Shield, or Verizon Call Filter, or review your carrier settings.
Do I need to uninstall my carrier’s spam-blocking app?
Uninstalling is not always required, but fully disabling all blocking features is recommended to prevent conflicts.
I disabled my carrier’s blocking service, but spam calls are still coming through. What should I do?
Confirm that YouMail blocking is enabled and properly configured in the YouMail app. Also, verify required permissions are granted on your device.
Does this apply to both iPhone and Android devices?
Yes. Carrier spam-blocking services can interfere with YouMail on both iPhone and Android devices.
Will disabling my carrier’s blocking service affect emergency calls or normal call handling?
No. Disabling spam-blocking features does not affect emergency calls or standard phone functionality.
