How to Close My YouMail Account & Return to My Carrier's Voicemail

Learn how to fully close your YouMail account and restore your carrier’s voicemail service.

Overview

If you’ve decided to close your YouMail account, we’re sorry to see you go. Closing your account requires more than deleting the app—it involves canceling any active subscription and deactivating call forwarding so missed calls return to your carrier’s voicemail correctly.

Important notes

Before closing your account, review the following to avoid service interruptions or billing issues.

  • Active subscriptions must be canceled first: If your account has an active subscription, it must be canceled before reverting to your carrier voicemail.

  • Refunds require support confirmation: If you believe a refund applies, contact Support via email before closing your account.

  • Deleting the app is not enough: Uninstalling the YouMail app only removes it from your phone. It does not stop missed calls from going to YouMail.

  • Deactivation is required: You must complete the deactivation steps to fully remove YouMail from your device.

How to close your YouMail account (website)

Follow these steps to completely close your account and return to your carrier’s voicemail.

  1. Sign in to your YouMail account at Sign In | YouMail.

  2. Click your Name in the top navigation bar and select Profile.

  3. Scroll down and click Close Account.

  4. When prompted, select Deactivate service.

  5. Dial your carrier-specific deactivation codes exactly as shown.

  6. Select the confirmation checkbox and continue.

  7. On the next screen, choose Completely delete my account*.

Important: Deactivation must be completed for YouMail to stop intercepting missed calls.

What happens when you delete your account?

  • Permanent deletion: Selecting Completely delete my account permanently removes all voicemails, greetings, and contact information.

  • Keeping voicemails keeps the account active: If you choose to keep voicemails, the account will remain open.

  • Save voicemails first: You can download and save voicemails to your device or computer before deleting your account.

How to deactivate YouMail from the mobile app

If you want to return to your carrier voicemail using the YouMail Android or iPhone app—or if you already deleted the app but still need to deactivate—follow the steps in Deactivating YouMail.

This ensures your missed calls no longer route to YouMail and return to your carrier’s voicemail system.
