Overview
The Protection Meter in the YouMail app shows how actively YouMail is protecting your phone from spam, robocalls, and unwanted calls. It reflects your current protection level based on enabled features such as call protection, call screening, contact syncing, and blocked numbers. This guide explains what each part of the Protection Meter means on both iOS and Android devices.
What the protection meter means
The Protection Meter ranges from lower protection to higher protection. When the meter shows High, YouMail is actively blocking known spam calls using the YouMail Directory, along with the protection features you have enabled.
A higher protection level indicates that more features are active and working together to protect your phone.
Call protection active
When Call Protection Active is shown, YouMail is currently running and blocking known spam numbers based on the YouMail Directory.
This protection works automatically and does not require you to manually block individual phone numbers.
Known spammers
Known Spammers shows how many phone numbers are currently identified as spam in the YouMail Directory.
The YouMail Directory is a global database used to protect all YouMail users by identifying and blocking known spam and robocall numbers.
Block list
Block List shows how many phone numbers you have personally blocked.
Calls from numbers in your Block List will always be blocked, regardless of other protection settings.
Sync contacts
Sync Contacts allows YouMail to recognize your saved contacts as trusted callers.
This helps ensure calls from people in your contacts are handled normally and are not mistakenly screened or blocked. Contact syncing is used only to improve call handling and is not shared publicly.
Why some protection settings may not be adjustable
Some protection controls, including advanced protection and call screening options, are available only on paid plans.
On free plans, YouMail still blocks known spam automatically using the YouMail Directory, but certain controls may appear locked or unavailable.
Call screening and protection
If Call Screening is turned off, incoming calls will ring normally on your phone instead of being screened by the YouMail app.
Even when call screening is turned off, YouMail continues to block known spam calls using the YouMail Directory.
Tips to maximize protection
• Enable call protection: Make sure Call Protection Active is turned on
• Use call screening: Enable Call Screening if it’s available on your plan
• Sync contacts: Prevent important calls from being screened or blocked
• Review your block list: Keep it updated with current spam numbers
Important: Your Protection Meter level depends on which features are enabled and your current subscription plan.
Note: The Protection Meter updates automatically as settings change on both iOS and Android.
Tip: Keeping call protection active at all times provides the most consistent spam blocking.
