Updating your info in the YouMail Directory

Learn how to correct or update inaccurate information associated with your phone number in the YouMail Directory.

Overview

The YouMail Directory displays information collected from YouMail users, the FCC, and other public data sources. Because some sources may be outdated, directory listings can occasionally show incorrect caller names or spam labels. This article explains how to update YouMail Directory information, whether you own the phone number or are submitting a general report.

Key benefits/use cases

  • Correct inaccurate listings: Update the incorrect caller name or status in the YouMail Directory

  • Claim number ownership: Verify ownership to gain more control over your directory listing

  • Reduce incorrect spam labels: Request removal of outdated or incorrect spam indicators

  • Improve caller accuracy: Help ensure others see accurate information when your number appears

How to update your YouMail Directory information

To update incorrect information in the YouMail Directory, follow the steps that apply to your situation.

How to claim your phone number

To claim your number in the YouMail Directory, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the YouMail Directory page for your phone number.

  2. Select I Own This Number.

  3. Follow the on-screen prompts to verify ownership.

  4. Create a YouMail account if you do not already have one.

Once verification is complete, you can submit an Owner’s Report, which will be pinned to the top of the directory listing for that number.

Benefits of claiming your number

After claiming your number, you gain access to additional management options, including:

  • A Verified Owner badge on your listing

  • A one-time clearing of the Spam Calls Detected label

  • The ability to customize the Caller Name and other listing details

  • Daily email reports about updates to your directory entry

Important: Clearing the Spam Calls Detected label is a one-time action. If new spam reports are received, the label may reappear.

Pro tip: Subscribing to YouMail Identify provides additional tools to manage and monitor your directory listing.

Submit a report without claiming a number

If you do not own the phone number or do not want to claim it, you can still request an update by submitting a report.

How to submit a directory report

To submit a report for a phone number, follow these steps:

  1. Enter the phone number you want to update.

  2. Scroll down to Add a Report.

  3. Update the information as needed.

  4. Uncheck Mark as Spam (when appropriate).

  5. Select Submit.

Important: When reports contain conflicting information, YouMail uses the data that appears most frequently across all reports. To change a listing’s status, the number of positive reports must significantly outweigh spam reports.

Note: Submitting a report does not guarantee immediate changes. Updates depend on report volume and consistency across sources.

Tip: Encourage others who recognize the number as legitimate to submit accurate reports to help correct the listing faster.
