Overview
YouMail allows you to keep voicemail messages indefinitely when they are stored correctly. This article explains how message retention works, what affects mailbox limits, and how to save important voicemails so they are never removed.
Message lifespan in YouMail
You can keep voicemail messages forever in YouMail as long as they are stored in the correct folder and your account remains active.
Important details to know
Saved folder storage: Messages moved to the Saved folder are retained indefinitely
Mailbox limits: Saved messages count toward your total mailbox usage
Free account activity requirement: Free subscribers must remain active at least once every 2 months to prevent account closure
Automatic cleanup: Auto Cleanup may remove messages from a full inbox if no space is freed within two weeks
How to save a voicemail permanently
Saving a voicemail ensures it is not removed during automatic cleanup.
How to move a voicemail to the Saved folder
To save a voicemail, follow these steps:
Open your YouMail Inbox and go to the Voicemail tab.
Select the voicemail(s) you want to keep by checking the box next to each message.
Click Actions, then select Move.
From the pop-up window, choose the Saved folder and confirm.
Once moved, the voicemail will remain available indefinitely, as long as your account is active and within mailbox limits.
How Automatic Inbox Clean-Up works
Automatic Inbox Clean-Up helps free space when your inbox is full.
To manage this setting on the web:
Sign in to YouMail.com.
Select Settings.
Choose Mailbox.
Click Edit under Automatic Inbox Clean-Up and enable the feature.
When enabled, Auto Cleanup will remove older inbox messages if your inbox remains full for two weeks.
Using the YouMail app to save messages
The same message-saving feature is available in the YouMail app:
Select a voicemail
Choose the option to Move the message
Place it in the Saved folder
This ensures the message is protected from automatic cleanup.
Important
Messages stored in the Saved folder count toward your total mailbox size. If your mailbox becomes full, consider upgrading to a paid plan to increase storage capacity.
Note
If you want to store voicemail audio files outside of YouMail, you can download and save them to your computer for long-term archiving.
Pro tip
For important or legal voicemails, save the message and download a local copy to ensure you always have access—even outside of YouMail.
