Overview
SimulRing on Vonage allows incoming calls to ring multiple phone numbers at the same time. In some cases, SimulRing prevents calls from forwarding correctly to YouMail because the originally called number is not passed during call forwarding. This guide explains why this happens and provides solutions to restore voicemail forwarding.
Key benefits / use cases
• Restore voicemail forwarding: Ensure missed calls are routed correctly to YouMail
• Improve call reliability: Prevent voicemail interruptions caused by SimulRing settings
• Multiple resolution options: Choose between carrier support or using a deposit number
How to fix call forwarding issues when using SimulRing on Vonage
To restore call forwarding to YouMail while using SimulRing, follow one of the options below:
Option 1: Contact Vonage support
Contact Vonage Support
Inform them that when SimulRing is enabled, the OCN (originally called number) is not being forwarded to YouMail
Ask Vonage to review or adjust their forwarding configuration
If Vonage engineers require technical details, submit a request to YouMail Support for assistance with logs or additional information
Option 2: Use a personal deposit number
Obtain your personal YouMail deposit number
Set your call forwarding to route missed calls directly to your deposit number
Test call forwarding by placing a test call and allowing it to reach voicemail
Important: SimulRing may override normal voicemail forwarding because it routes calls through multiple numbers simultaneously.
Note: Using a deposit number bypasses the SimulRing forwarding limitation and allows voicemail messages to reach YouMail correctly.
Tip: Always place a test call after updating forwarding settings to confirm voicemail is working.
Pro tip: If you frequently use multiple devices or call routing features, using a deposit number often provides the most consistent voicemail delivery.
